A huge new building almost totally encases an existing power station, which had to remain fully operational throughout construction. In order to get Boston Redevelopment Authority approval, however, the steel structure (which contains only machinery) had to have windows and a brick exterior, to echo the load-bearing masonry of its 19th century neighbors. Bear in mind that each of the 3 "floors" is 33 feet high!
